Will the United States satisfy the Kingdom of Morocco with a consulate and maneuvers in the Sahara?

Rabat wants bigger American steps in the Sahara.  Neither the diplomatic presence, which culminated in the opening of the Washington Consulate in Dakhla, sent "reassurance" signals to the Moroccan side, nor did the American military exercises that are being held this year in "sensitive" areas in the Sahara were able to "curb" Rabat's curiosity to know the "American position."

The American position on the Sahara did not progress as was expected during the recent work of the Security Council.  The enthusiasm that characterized the American movements during the period of "Trump" has continued to wane, and the phone call between the Moroccan and American foreign ministers did not address the issue of the Sahara, while sources indicated that the Biden administration will not back down from recognizing the Moroccan Sahara.
Rabat was waiting for the highest level of interaction from the American side on the issues of the Sahara, but Washington showed patience and slowdown in the final settlement of this problem, especially in the Security Council, as it holds the keys to a final solution to the conflict.
Hicham Moatadid, a researcher in international relations, said that "the American presence in the southern provinces, through the opening of a consulate or joint military maneuvers, constitutes a small part of the new road map between Rabat and Washington for a long-term strategic partnership that includes all parts of the Moroccan national territory."
The same analyst added, in a statement to Hespress, that “awaiting the full download of the joint economic and commercial programs between Morocco and the United States in the Moroccan Sahara, the new type of cooperation between the two countries translates the great ambition of their leaders to consolidate the bonds of historical cooperation to include all political dimensions related to the national security files of the two countries.”  .
The Moroccan expert residing in Canada considered that “this new approach to cooperation between the two countries has pushed the American administration to establish its strategic presence in the southern part of the Kingdom, and to impose its political convictions and its sovereignty orientation, at the international level, with regard to the Sahara file and pushing the political settlement course in the direction of supporting the Moroccan Sahara.  To end this conflict ”.

Mu'tadid emphasized that despite the change in the ideological orientation of the US administration and its political teams, “its sovereign decisions related to national security and common defense in its foreign policy are considered strategic constants that are often preserved, in order to ensure the parameters of continuity, and are subject to superficial reviews to confirm them or adapt them to new developments.  “.

The researcher professor at the Canadian University of Sherbrooke stressed that “the new map of strategic cooperation between Rabat and Washington, which pays special attention to the Sahara region, confirms the United States’ endeavor to support Morocco’s international efforts in ending the allegations of the fictitious thesis of the Polisario Front, especially pushing the international community to adopt a clear, serious approach.  And my positive in the context of the political settlement process for this file.
